As you’re searching for your wedding vendor team, experience is everything.
Many strong, professional musicians are not experienced wedding musicians, and therefore not accustomed to the nuanced timing, flexibility, and flow required on-site. When we begin working with new musicians, the first and most important thing we reiterate is that while we love their desire to play each note true to the sheet music’s form or flow, ceremony rigidity/inflexibility can make or break the full experience for both the client and the musician team.
Often, the unexpected occurs the day of the ceremony. The flower girl stops walking and returns to the beginning of the aisle, the bride is slightly delayed prior to her entrance, the weather is expected to turn so the schedule needs to fluctuate, the flower “dog” makes a run for it…we could go on and on. The musicians’ ability to continue and go with the flow (making it seem less awkward) is important.
