Since high school, Megan Johnson-Barnes has had a passion for teaching cello and helping her students fall in love with music. Incorporating Suzuki, Feuillard, Rick Mooney, Janos Starker, Popper and more, she believes in a well-rounded approach catering the lessons to each specific student’s learning style and level. Over the course of her professional career, she’s taught dozens of students ranging from age 8 to nearly 80.

Member of American String Teachers Association, and working to complete my Suzuki Certification in Books 1-5 (in progress).

Currently, Mrs. Johnson-Barnes studio is in Mauldin, SC (just outside of Greenville, SC and Simpsonville, SC). She also has hours at a facility in Greenville, SC near Bob Jones University (if this location is move convenient for you!).

She expects regular, daily practice. Our lessons will consist of a small amount of regular music theory in addition to cello studies.

**Current openings subject to change. Inquire directly regarding potential morning and early afternoon lesson times Tuesday/Thursday. Availability shown in 45-minute blocks, as this is the most popular lesson length (1 hour and 30 minute lessons also available).

Studio is located in Mauldin, SC. At this time, all lessons will take place at the cello studio or (if more convenience) the Pecknel Music Store location in Greenville, SC.

Set Monthly Rate (flat rate taking into consideration school holidays)


Monthly Rate will be...

$150.00 through the school year for 30-minute weekly lesson

$187.50 through the school year for 45-minute weekly lesson 

$240 through the school year for 60-minute weekly lesson 


Summer Schedule (flexible!): 

Mrs. Johnson-Barnes offers to continue the above/monthly structure, with lessons each week aside from the first week of June. If you, like so many of us, have a bit of an erratic summer schedule but would like to continue your child’s/your studies, she offers lesson bundles for June and July. You can book multiple lessons a week and skip a week as necessary for vacations when booking the bundled packages.


30-Minute Lessons (6) through the Summer: $225.00

45-Minute Lessons (6) through the Summer: $285.00 

60-Minute Lessons (6) through the Summer: $360.00

30-Minute Lessons (8) through the Summer: $300.00

Required Materials... 


Cello (please inquire re: rentals if you need assistance)- we recommend Bernhardt House of Violins.

Books will depend on the students current level, but will include a method book, a Suzuki book, and a theory book at minimum.

Pencil (please bring to each lesson)

I will provide students with a practice/composition book at their first lesson.
